Triple Haiku for Herman

We found you one day,
brought you home and promised care...
and then we failed you.

What's the lesson here?
Perhaps focus, commitment,
and mindful choosing.

Busy-ness is not
worth losing sight of small joys.
This cost was too great.

She says "we" failed Herman but really it was me. I got too busy and I neglected his water dish. We think the poor frog died of thirst--though still, I found him in such a horrible state that it's hard for me to accept that's what did him in. The time line doesn't make sense to me. He had water a few days ago but when I found him, he looked like he hadn't drunk in a week. Had I really not even looked at my frog for a week? His live food (crickets) survived longer than he did without any water, so what the heck? Oh, man. I'm 34 years old and I killed my pet from neglect. Isn't that supposed to happen to 9-year-olds?
